LinkedIn started as an online place for professionals to connect and network and was essentially set up as a social media platform. While they have continued to expand their social media capabilities, they have also enhanced their program so that professionals of all types, including both independent and corporate recruiters, can find, assess and present opportunities to professionals giving them the chance to grow their skillset and career.
“Seize every opportunity along the way, for how sad it would be if the road you chose was the road not taken”
Robert Brault
The importance of LinkedIn in the professional world today cannot be overstated. Be it a casual connection, the HR office of a company formally reaching out, or a recruiter contacting you about an opportunity, LinkedIn is a place of high visibility and potential opportunity.
Given the prominence this platform has achieved in the professional job market, it is important that people participate, create a meaningful and complete profile, and include details of their roles that might not otherwise be obvious from a title. The value of this may allow a candidate to learn about new and/or future job opportunities, become informed about the current state of the job market in a particular field, create an opportunity to expand their business through their current job or to network for educational purposes.
